I absolutely cannot believe that my very intelligent husband reads this stuff and believes it!

no wonder he gets mad when I make comments about believing in magic gods etc.

sometimes the most innocent remarks make the most profound impressions.

also - small tidbit - check out the WTcd footnote at 1 thes 4:16 *Lord = they say this Lord is Jehovah hahaha. Taken from the "J" translations which they whole heartedly use as other doctrinal proofs - pickin' & choosin' - but this has to be the most dramatic when you ask a JW to explain it LOL Personally I've had 2 phones slammed down, been accused of being "not humble enough to accept the truth™" and put on the notorious spiritually dangerous list.

Jgnat - I search all over this site and the WT is not listed anywhere - even among the 62 religious charities that are.
they must fall into one of these catagories - I'd love to know which one and why!
you can also ask specifically why they don't evaluate your favorite charity.
or request that they try.

Which charities do you evaluate?
Because we aim to help givers and to celebrate charities nationwide, we use five simple guidelines for choosing which charities to evaluate. Before evaluating a charity, we consider its:

Tax Status: We only evaluate organizations granted tax-exempt status under section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and file a Form 990. 501(c) (3) organizations are considered public charities and all donations to them are tax-exempt.

* We don't evaluate 501(c) (4) organizations.
501(c) (4) organizations, like the Disabled American Veterans or the National Rifle Association of America, are allowed to spend a substantial portion of their revenue on lobbying our government and not every donation to them is tax-deductible.
* We don't evaluate charities that are exempt from filing the Form 990.
Many religious organizations, like the Salvation Army, are exempt under Internal Revenue Code from filing the Form 990. As a result, we lack sufficient data to evaluate their financial health.
* We don't evaluate private foundations.
Private foundations, like the Avon Foundation, receive the majority of their money from only one individual, family or corporation. This differs from the public charities that Charity Navigator evaluates. Public charities have a broad-base of support from the general public as well as variety of other funding sources. The IRS requires that private foundations file a Form 990-PF which differs from the document public charities file. This makes it impossible for us to compare the financial performance of private foundations to public charities.

Do you still feel guilty, not going to the memorial?

the first time i missed the memorial, i was sick and couldn't go, and felt guilty because that meeting was so important.. then another year, i missed again, this time i wasn't sick.

i still felt guilty, because i still believed in the religion to a certain extent.

i didn't go because i didn't want to go back to the meetings, and feel trapped once more.. maybe some feel guilty that they aren't doing anything for the memorial or easter, depending which religion you think is right, because after all jesus did say to remember him..

what do JWs say to those who remember Jesus everyday? while they only do it once a year?

Phrases that control the mind and thinking

some of the words that i always look out for in watchtower literature are the following:.

without doubt...... evidently...... obviously....... we can conclude from this......... can you think of more?.

a lot has to be learnt from blondie's watchtower studies and some of it is that when the wt society has no evidence for a supposition it plants one of these phrases that suggest stupidity on the part of the reader if he/she doesn't agree with what idea the watchtower society has come up with!.

believers.....

happy Christians...

your reasonableness will...

no doubt you will carefully select....

Many Christians have found...

both young and old will....

however....

if they reflect good judgement...

Many people who neither know nor care about godly.....

mature Christian couple wanting.... should

rather their outlook should....

Christian couples want....

they will want....

the husband will be...

he will....

the couple should...

these will be understanding....

will not be offended....

a responsible fellow believer

a spiritually mature Christian brother

in line with what was discussed some couples choose...

trustworthy Christian...to make sure that all present follow...

need to act ...

proving their faith

wise Christians will refrain...

proving our faith certainly involves...meetings preaching

deeds fully performed

happy gathering of Christians

the one with the "preaching work will finish in our 20th century" quote ....i will pay good money for it....pretty please....it could sway someone out of the watchtower trap... they wont look at photocopies...here's hoping...

I think the biggest point to all of this is how they change from original to the reprints, to the cd - in other words - rewriting their own history so that they always look right - like in the book 1984 - this is dishonest - & dishonesty has no business being anywhere near anything called god, but right where it belongs - in brooklyn. my 2

Another good book is The Language of God, by Francis Collins. One thing right off the bat is the definition of the word THEORY. When this word is used with the science of evolution - it doesn't mean HYPOTHESIS. It is used the same way as Music would use the word THEORY. To the average joe the word theory tends to mean something thought up, an idea. Not so in the scientific world. wp

Heathen: - regarding the verse 1 Thes 4:16. pointed out my Mary....

".....because the Lord* himself will descend from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel’s voice and with God’s trumpet..."

I've added the asterisk beside the Lord as the WT has on their CD. follow the footnote. You are clinging to a doctrine taught by anonymous gods in Brooklyn who can't even make up their minds. Their footnote has this Lord as Jehovah!
